Ultraviolet radiation may harm exposed fish
An Associated Press article states that Kirk Malloy and William Detrich of
Northeastern University in Boston have found that ultraviolet light
reaching the surface unimpeded due to the hole in the ozone layer over the
South Pole is affecting fish in the region. These researchers have found
lesions in icefish off the Antarctic Peninsula that stretches toward the
tip of South America. There have been reports of damage to algae in the
area, but this is the first report of damage to fish.
