Environmental Studies in Slovenia
May 26 - June 13, 1997

The University of Iowa is pleased to offer for the first time a unique opportunity to live and study in Slovenia. This program is open to students with at least senior standing and an interest in environmental sciences. Classroom facilities will be provided at the School of Environmental Sciences, located in Nova Gorica.

Academic Program
All program participants will take the three-week course entitled "Atmospheric Pollution: Sources and Controls", taught by Associate Professor Burton Kross from the University of Iowa., for a total of 3 semester hours.The course will provide an intermediate-level understanding of the legal framework for air pollution control in various countries, sources of air pollution, and control strategies for point and non-point sources of air emissions. Examples of air pollution problems from Slovenia, Europe, and the USA will be used to illustrate issues and solutions. Computer dispersion models for estimating ambient air levels will be applied, and field trips will be conducted to observe air pollution control problems and control processes utilized in Slovenia. Students will be able to take this course for a total of 3 semester hours.
